About Us
The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI] is a statutory body to promote and advance the science, practice, and art of engineering. IEI has a glorious history of more than 100 years. It provides a vast knowledge base to its members, promotes ethical practices and professional excellence. The Institution of Engineers (India) or IE(I) is the largest multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15 engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global platform from which to share professional interest. IE(I) has membership strength of over 0.8 million.
The Institution of Engineers (India), Bihar State Centre was established in 1947. The foundation stone for the current building of IEI, Bihar State Centre situated at the Kranti Marg, R-Block, Patna was laid by then Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Krishna Singh on 14th November 1960. The “Visvesvaraya Sabha Bhawan” is the big air-conditioned auditorium of the IEI, Bihar State Centre having a seating capacity of 300 persons. Further, there is another air-conditioned Conference Hall equipped with all the latest facilities for organizing any conference with seating capacity of 100 persons. The IEI, Bihar State Centre has also a very beautiful air-conditioned Library named after Captain Somesh Shrivastava, AMIE who made supreme sacrifice of his life on 4th March 2001 in service of the nation. The library has a very large, collection of engineering related books, journals and historical documents. The IEI, Bihar State Centre has two air-conditioned double-bed guest rooms offering accommodation to the corporate members/non-members at very reasonable charges

The Institution of Engineers (India) celebrates Engineers' Day every year in all its centres throughout the country on 15th September to mark the Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, a great Engineer, Statesman and Engineering Wizard. The Bihar State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) will be celebrating 58th Enginners' Day on 15th September 2025 at the Institution premises in the Visvesvaraya Sabha Bhawan, IEI, Bihar State Centre, Kranti Marg, Near R-Block Chauraha, Patna 800 001. This year's theme for deliberation during Engineers' Day is "Deep Tech & Engineering Excellence: Driving India's Techade"
